About Chris / Garlandry field journal

Learn the whole system.

I’m Chris Garland. Garland Fire Systems is my father’s family business and my employer. I work there as a fire alarm technician, learning to troubleshoot the whole system, take my time, and put safety first.

The job is teaching me to see more than the fault in front of me and to stay useful from the first check through the finish.

Learning on the job

A good job takes more than a quick fix.

01

Troubleshoot the whole system

Learn how the pieces work together. Follow the problem carefully instead of stopping at the first fault.

02

Take the time. Put safety first.

Fire alarm work carries real responsibility. A careful pace and a safety-first approach belong in every job.

03

Learn the tools behind the system

Work with computers, equipment, electronics, and code.

The practical work matters too: cleaning up, keeping the site organized, and taking on different roles when that helps the crew get the job done.

Still being built

My future is mine to build either way.

Maybe one day I could take over the family business. That is an uncertain aspiration, not a promise or a settled outcome.

Either way, I’m building my own skills, platforms, and future through Garland Enterprises. The work is mine to keep doing, whatever happens next.

In progress, by design.
